What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition caused by compression of the median nerve as it travels through a narrow passage in the wrist called the Carpal Tunnel.

This tunnel is surrounded by bones and a thick ligament (the transverse carpal ligament). The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand, the Median nerve, is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist. In most patients, carpal tunnel syndrome gets worse over time.
Untreated compression can lead to more persistent symptoms and even permanent muscle weakness in the hand.

What Is PRP Hydrodissection?

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is made from a small sample of your own blood. It contains concentrated platelets and growth factors that help reduce inflammation and support tissue healing.

Hydrodissection is an ultrasound-guided technique in which the PRP is carefully placed around the median nerve to gently separate it from surrounding tissue. This reduces the mechanical irritation, improves nerve mobility, decreases inflammation and creates a healthier environment around the nerve.

Common Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

  • Numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, middle, and part of the ring finger
  • Burning or electric-type pain in the hand or wrist
  • Symptoms that worsen at night or with repetitive use
  • Weakness or clumsiness in the hand
  • Difficulty gripping objects or performing fine motor tasks

How the Procedure Works

Facet joint arthritis occurs when the cartilage inside the facet joints wears down or the joint becomes chronically inflamed. This can happen from aging, repetitive stress, spinal degeneration, prior injury, or abnormal mechanics in the spine.
The procedure is performed in-office using ultrasound guidance. A small blood sample is taken and processed to concentrate the platelets. The physician then uses ultrasound to identify the median nerve and precisely guide the injection around the nerve, freeing it up and creating more space around the nerve
